A uniquely abstract “Echoes of the Range” installed in Colorado by Marci Blumberg

Douwe and his team completed installation of a life-sized herd of abstract horses at the Adams County Government Center this June.   This was a very exciting opportunity because it allowed Douwe to explore a more “abstract” vision.  Not only are the “negative space” horses unique, but the placement and their interaction with the site is extremely innovative.  In an effort to integrate both interior and exterior spaces, the herd move from the outer courtyard, through the glass wall and into the lobby.

“Dance of Life” goes to the Town of Davidson, NC by Marci Blumberg

A piece that Douwe has been conceptualizing since a residency in Tokyo has been acquired by the Town of Davidson, North Carolina.  Standing almost fifteen feet tall, this abstract figure releases a flock of birds into the sky.  Douwe wanted to create a piece that captured the joy of living.  It is a visually clean work which was extremely complex technically because it is all cantilevered from the single ankle requiring extensive internal structures.  “Dance of Life” is beautifully set-off by the lovely site designed by local landscape architect, J’Nell Bryson.
