A monumentally-scaled, twenty foot tall face gazes questioningly skyward. The face is comprised of a lace-like metal skin; this skin is in turn formed from thousands of smaller parts, in this case metal rings of varying sizes. The face's structure reflects the science demonstrating that we are ultimately the sum of a convergence of myriads of ever-smaller elements.

“Progression”, is a visionary deep-dive into interactive artwork; interacting with both the landscape and viewers. Evolving from rusting to mirror-polished stainless steel, 30 monumentally-scaled spheres flow linearly across the multi-acre site. Emanating from an un-manicured “prairie” hillside, they flow downhill across the Jamie Hurd Amphitheater seating area, jump a wall, down the lawns and out onto the surface of the adjacent lake.

In view of our culture’s current climate, I felt powerfully motivated the create an artwork communicating a powerful and positive message about the true meaning of “community”. Painstakingly fabricated from thousands of sculpted aluminum alloy rings, each ethereal figure is a beautiful and unique individual artwork, yet when joined together create an even greater and more stable image by their unity.

This piece represents American Green Berets riding into combat on horseback in Afghanistan in 2002, the first Americans to do so in over fifty years. The culmination of almost a decade of research, the sculpture was created in close cooperation with the actual "horse soldiers" and U.S. Special Operations command.

Gracing the front of a fire station, “The Iron Roof” is an abstract representation of the protective/sheltering role the fire department plays in the community. Held in place by a web of cables representing the numerous supports that keep the fire department operations, the massive rusted iron roof serves as a shield held in place by the community which it serves. The three sculptural elements subtly form an abstracted fireman’s helmet when viewed from a distance.

This larger-than-life black panther was a site-specific piece for this garden pond. The treatment chosen was a blend I can best describe as “stylistic realism”. I felt the power and sinuous movement of this animal would be lost by using too realistic a style. All the muscles and planes were stylized and smoothed to help accentuate the “flow” of this cat.

“Dance of Life” is fascinating both artistically and technically. Using powerful imagery and movement, this piece is intended as an unabashed celebration of life. Utilizing contrasting materials and textures, “Dance of Life” was a technical challenge due to the cantilevered design requiring massive internal structures. This piece is a refreshingly optimistic work of abstraction that has engaged a wide and diverse audience.

Aluminum plate and polyester resin
Created specifically for this site, this monumentally scaled suspended piece seems to defy gravity as it hovers over the stage. A complex interior lighting system dramatically refracts light upon backdrop wall. This concept was intended to convey many layers of meaning through the symbiosis of sculpture and light. Created from aluminum clad in sculpted layers of polyester resin and faux-painted bronze, this piece is substantially lighter than a true bronze version would be, and is hence, more suitable for suspension.
